January Block Instructions

Hello everyone! Happy Winter and Merry Christmas! I hope everyone has had some relaxing and enjoyable holidays.

Looking forward, I'm next on the list - January is finally here!

I would love some house blocks. I don't have a preference on style - traditional or wonky is fine with me. You can get as creative as you'd like - plain houses, trees, flowers, even other buildings (churches, schools, etc.) are fine with me! You can search "wonky house quilt" on flickr and find lots and lots of inspiration. Obviously I would like the focus to be the vintage sheets, but if you need or want to include other fabrics (solids perhaps?), that's fine with me. I *love* polka dots, so I'd be thrilled to see some dots added. I also *love* trees, so if you feel your house needs some landscaping, that would be a wonderful treat, too!

I'd like the blocks to be 12.5" square (so they'll end up 12" finished).

October Blocks

For October I would love for you to make the blockbelow from the Tutorial By Amy over at moda bake shop.
Complete instructions here. I would like to avoid sending out fabric since I am behind schedule... so here are my thoughts. I would like everyone to use****EDITED*** a nice crisp white cotton for the background, it .

Big surprise... I would like the center squares to be pink... any shade or design just make sure the print is pink... no white backgrounds please:) For the outer four squares I would like them to all be the same fabric... however if you do decided to make a second block( love when that happens but sooo not required) the four squares can be different. One other request... sheesh picky .... No BROWNS. Think pretty girly colors, shabby chic..not mod and funky. Orange is not my fave unless it is part of a darling floral

September Instructions

For September, I am requesting "flower" squares. The sheet print used does not need to be floral. These instructions will be for a 6.5 square, but if you'd like to do a 5.5 square that would be fine, too.

You'll line up a white square in one of the corners, and a yellow square in the opposite corner from that. If you do happen to start with a 5.5 square please cut the white and yellow squares down to 2.5".

I found it helpful to make a line from corner to corner of the small squares so that I could sew a straight line.

Once you have each square sewn on, measure 1/2 inch from the line you sewed and cut the corners off.It will look like this. I generally press my seams toward the darkest fabric. I do not press seams open, just to one side.Once you have 4 of these made you will sew two together. The yellows go towards the center to form the center of the flower.At this point, I usually press the seams in opposite directions, can you see that in the picture? That's probably common knowledge, but I didn't know it at first. It helps to get the middle seam lined up a little better.Et, voila! The finished square. I didn't measure the final square but from the final picture here it looks like about 12.5? So, I would consider this one a pink flower because I used prints that were mostly pink. If you don't have enough of the color you'd like to do, let me know and I'm happy to send some out! This blue one was my first try, the pic is a little dark here, but you get the idea. You don't have to pick a pastel, any color is good. Thank you!

Let's get wonky!

For my month, I've chosen the wonky log-cabin block. It's super easy, and another block that is great for scraps. I wrote this blog post about it a while back, with several pictures of my test blocks. And here's a nice tutorial for a wonky log cabin block (though I'd like the center square not cut wonky).

Some details:

- Start with a 3" square in the middle (and don't cut this wonky)

- Do slightly wonky log cabin (or courthouse square) piecing around that, until the block is at least 12.5" in both dimensions. It probably won't be square and that's just fine.

- I love bright colors, so go crazy!

- You don't have to square up the block when you're done

- Iron the seams to one side, whatever is the easy way (usually that's towards the outside of the block)

I think that's it, but let me know if I missed anything!

hello bees!

i hope that everyone is as excited about this as i am::

first of all a big thank you to all of you for providing information and links on the flickr page :: since this is my first bee it was all really useful :: and second since this is my first bee i hope you will all forgive me in advance if i make a mistake ::

i surfed around a bit last night and found this tutorial for a block o' strings :: i really liked it in the photos and thought just to be sure that it was what i wanted i quickly made this this morning ::

i love it :: i followed the tutorial exactly and made each square 6.5 inches , so the finished size is 12" square ( i used a 1/2 inch seam allowance) ::

so here are the deets ::

i am completly fine and would prefer if everyone would make me a block from their own stash :: i have seen many vintage sheets in blogland and know that i have only a tiny bit of what is out there :: i am hoping that if you use your own stash i will get little bits of all of those great sheets i see but don't have :: luckily this thing is made with scraps so it won't use up much if any of your favorite sheets ::

if you don't have enough scraps to make this block let me know, i will happily send you some!

when sending these to me feel free to stuff it into the smallest envelope possible to save on postage :: i have an iron and am positive any wrinkles will iron out just fine::

colorwise i will let each of you decide what you would like to make :: i'm not fussy, i'll just let you know this.... the crazier and wackier the color scheme, the better!

and i am not expecting more than one block from each of you, but if you want to send me more than one i would love it.... and i will send you an extra(s) in return when your month come up!!
